About Ellen

Ellen has been helping students with their college application essay for nearly 15 years and has recently expanded her service to include medical school applicants. Her specialty is making sure students pick the best story for their essays and ensuring the essay stays true to the student’s voice and intention.

Not so long ago, Ellen taught writing and literature at George Mason University, as well as college application essay workshops for the Chantilly Regional Library in Chantilly, Virginia. Her most recent teaching gig is leading Creative Writing Workshops through the Lifelong Learners program at Fredrick Community College.

Her own work has been published by the Saturday Evening Post, the Kenyon Review, Hunger Mountain, Liars’ League NYC, the Hong Kong Review, and several others. She’s the recipient of the George Mason 2019 Outstanding Graduate Student Award (MFA Creative Writing/Fiction). TripBase twice recognized her blog about living in India as one of the top 10 best travel blogs. And she is currently working on a novel.

A craggy mountain in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia has become home. This is where Ellen also hosts writing workshops and retreat spaces. (AReasontoWrite.com)

A blank page doesn’t have to be scary. I’ll guide you through the entire writing process, from brainstorming to drafting to revising. Together, we will get you to that very last period with an essay that you love.
